Bad day at the Plaza del Toros
Despite the bull's temporary upset victory, the Matador quickly recovered . Five stills from 'The Red Cape', a documentary photographed in Spain in 2002 recording the movement, color, spectacle, sound, and details of the Corrida from start to finish. Graphically depicted from early Roman artists to Goya and Picasso, the popularity of this last vestige of a three thousand year-old 'blood sport' is difficult to comprehend in a nonagrarian society. But the classic question still remains-is the true "beast" the four legged one in the sand - or the collective two legged ones roaring in the stands? 'The Red Cape' (14 min.) is available in DVD.
